SMH attacks Norton, McAfee in security article

Dave Thompson of the Sydney Morning Herald wrote an article today titled “Know your viruses”. In it he talks about rogue anti-spyware products (such as Spy Sheriff, Pest Trap, XP Antivirus 2009, Adware Alert and the likes, of which there are many). In the article he lays on criticism of Norton & McAfee’s software offerings, as mentioned in this paragraph:

The internet is the playground of smarter gangstas who don’t waste time actually killing to make a killing; all they need to do is fool a million people a day into paying 30 bucks for software that doesn’t do anything (though one could argue that Norton and McAfee have been doing that for years).

Good point Mr Thompson. It’s nice to see a well-written article about security from the Sydney Morning Herald. I wonder what the big boys at Norton & McAfee think…
