Sensis search to die very soon, world celebrates (Updated).

UPDATE: Danielle Horan from Sensis replied to the below post with a few clarifications. You can read her full response in the comments section. – r.

After announcing their partnership with Google Maps, it has been revealed that Telstra-owned Sensis will finally abandon its unpopular search service, opting to use Google’s search on I don’t know anyone who ever used the service and I doubt that even Sol Trujillo will be disappointed. In fact, even Sensis itself could only find 58 results for the Telstra CEO’s name, compared to Google’s 446,000+ search results. Telstra is yet to provide a timeframe for the transition, but we’ll let you know when it happens.

Hi, I work for Sensis and thought it necessary to chime in following your post. I think you may have missed the mark on this one. Yes, Google will now power the search engine however for Australian buyers and sellers, the real story behind the agreement struck between Sensis and Google is that it provides them value.

A lot of people use Google Maps to look for a local business. This agreement means they will have Yellow business listings at the click of a mouse to help find what they need. That’s value.

For the hundreds of thousands of business that advertise with Yellow, their listings will be available to all the people using Google Maps, at no extra cost. Again, that’s enormous value.

The listings are scheduled to be available on Google Maps in the first quarter of the 2009 calendar year.
