111 Hits Goes Live on Foxtel

Foxtel’s new network, 111 Hits has gone live and is now accessible through the TV Guide for any Foxtel subscriber. The new channel, launching November 1 is essentially a mix of Foxtel’s existing programs from The Comedy Channel, FOX8, Fox Classics and Arena. It’s believed to be based on Viacom’s TV Land network in the US. It’s nothing new and nothing interesting, but it supposedly gives them an excuse to justify the $3 price hike starting from next month. Also of note, the channel will be using Telstra, McDonalds and Reckitt Benckiser for advertising. The network will be in direct competition with TV1. TV1 uses Universal, Sony and Paramount for its programming, Channel 111 will be using Warner Bros, Disney and 20th Century Fox. 111 Hits will be available to all Foxtel subscribers, however the company pulled plans to launch the channel on Austar at the same date, so if you’re rural, you’ll have to wait a while. The channel is based alongside The Comedy Channel in Foxtel’s Melbourne studios. Also launching in November are BBC Knowledge and CBeebies, an ad-free channel for preschoolers. If you’re interested in 111 Hits, head to their website for a promo, or watch it over and over again on your TV on Channel 111. Also, hit the link for Foxtel’s press release.

I would like to know why Foxtel has chosen to pull this station from Austar programming.

There are thousands of rural subscribers who have no choice other than to get Austar pay television, and to run advertisements knowing that Austar subscribers will see them, is just plain wrong.

When is Austar likely to actually get this station, or any new station for that matter?

It’s too bad austar doesnt have this, i think they’d get a few more customers as all of them are leaving ;p
